Guided Bird Research Hike at Point of View on the Abbaye Peninsula
Ellie Roark will lead this hike on Saturday, May 18 at 10 AM
Join ornithologist Ellie Roark at KLTís Point of View (POV) cabin for a guided hike across her bird migration study sites at Point Abbaye. Ellie is completing her second spring of bird survey work co-sponsored by Copper Country Audubon. This year's research compares the effectiveness of her labor-intensive point and transect counts to those taken by audio recording units (ARUs). Hike with Ellie to look for birds and learn about the life of a resident scientist at this rustic, remote setting and how the use of ARUs might benefit bird migration studies.

Be prepared for spring field conditions by dressing in layers and waterproof footwear and bring a lunch or snacks and drinking water. Event will conclude around 1:00 p.m. If you like, take some time to explore the Baraga County Park at Point Abbaye or other KLT protected lands near POV. Ellieís study is funded by Copper Country Audubon and the Wilson Ornithological Society and KLT provides her lodging.
