In the last two
years KLT has expanded public resources in the local
area by creating the Manitou Island Light Station
Preserve, establishing the Marsin Nature Retreat
Center, adding to the Paavola Wetlands Preserve.
We've also partnered with other organizations to
expand publicly-accessible protected lakeshore and
worked on additional conservation easements-all for
the benefit of both residents and visitors. Other
partnerships and new easements and acquisitions are
constantly under development, along with KLT's
public events, including the annual HorseTail
Scramble, TalviTohinat ski race, and day sails and
courses with the tall ship Denis Sullivan.
The Keweenaw Land Trust is recognized as a
strong land trust in our region, which would not be
possible without the generous contributions of KLT's
members and volunteers.
The KLT's land conservation efforts require
financial support for publications and
communications, office space and resources,
insurance, and salaries of two part-time staff. The
staff are key in building partnerships, paying
attention to all of the project and organizational
details, and are critical to accomplishing more
conservation successes in the future.
We need your help to maintain this momentum.
Sincerely,
KLT Board Members
